Telangana Handicrafts Golkonda to go Online on Amazon
The Telangana Handicrafts will go online tentatively on 5 th March2016, Hon'ble Minister for Industries Shri Jupally Krishna Rao is all set to launch it online . Handicrafts which has a couple of show rooms in Hyderabad and Secunderabad and one each in Delhi and Kolkata, it has not been able to register much sales of late. Post Bifurcation, the Hon'ble Minister in his visit to the Showroom recently had emphasised the need for better visibility for Telangana handicrafts to achieve higher sales.
The Hon'ble Minister for Handicrafts has encouraged the officials to come up with proposals to enhance the sales and make better profitability to help the artisans increase their average wages ensuring better income levels . He further emphasised the need to go online selling of handicrafts, and entrusted Dr.Sirish Akula, Public Relations officer from his office to coordinate with the Department and authentic Online portals and ensure that the work is completed expediously .
Under the able Guidance and active cooperation of Smt. Shailaja Ramaiyer, IAS Director, Handicrafts, several items from the Telangana Handicrafts viz.Silver filigree, Pembarthy Brass items, Cherial Scroll Paintings, Nirmal wood work items, Warangal Durries ,Terracotta, Adilabad Dokra Items, Hyderabad Bidri, Red Sander Bead malas, Warangal Leather Utility items etc have been identified in the first instalment of online sales on Amazon. Among the identified items related to home Decor, Furnishings, jewellery, Accessories, Apparels, Leather bags etc are few to mention.
Around 180 items would be ready for sale online on the day of the Launch , officials from Amazon will also attend the launch. Smt Shailaja Ramaiyer appreciated the efforts put in by Dr.Sirish in making this a reality with in a span of less than 10 days. She expected the sales to increase with the help of Amazon which has the most number of visitors on a day to day basis.
With the availability of handicrafts online there would be wide publicity and people would be able to buy in the confines of their offices and homes without having to go out and visit the showrooms informed Dr.Sirish,He felt most of the IT sector employees would benefit as they have the spending power but seldom have time to go out and look for handicrafts. He also said that soon the sales would grow manifold and the dividends would reach the artisans, motivating them to pursue their own art ! Finally it helps in erasing distress among artisans who would not have to go in search of other professions. Amazon is a global market and lets hope we are able to market globally pretty soon.
